Intervention by Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto at a recent Senate Health Committee meeting prompted swift action from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, leading to FMG refunds being issued to many affected overseas-qualified graduates. The development has eased financial strain for hundreds of young doctors who had been waiting for resolution.
The Foreign Medical Graduates community welcomed the outcome and expressed sincere appreciation for Senator Bhutto’s advocacy. Representatives said the senator’s timely raising of the issue in the committee was instrumental in accelerating the refund process and drawing attention to the graduates’ legitimate concerns.
Special recognition was also extended to the PMDC leadership for implementing the committee’s directions quickly and responsibly. President PMDC Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj and Registrar Brig. (R) Dr. Rehan Naqvi were commended for ensuring that administrative steps were taken to return payments to those eligible.
On behalf of the FMG community, Dr. Rafey Sher thanked Senator Bhutto and the PMDC team for their cooperation and responsiveness. He noted that the refunds will provide much-needed relief to young medical professionals and underscored appreciation for the transparent handling of the matter.
Stakeholders said the episode highlights the positive impact of coordinated oversight between parliamentarians and regulatory authorities. The FMG community hopes that continued collaboration will reinforce transparency, fairness and facilitation for qualified medical professionals across Pakistan as more graduates receive their refunds.
