A high-level meeting was convened to deliberate on the allocation of scholarships for students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), in line with the directions of the Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, delivered during his address to the AJK Legislative Assembly on Kashmir Solidarity Day (5 February). The meeting was chaired by Syeda Hajra Sohail, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund (PEEF), and was attended by key education stakeholders from AJK and Pakistan, including Prof. Dr. Tariq Khan, Director Public Instruction (Colleges) AJK, Ch. Nazir, Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mirpur, and Naveed Ahmed, Director of Technical Education Institutes, along with other officials representing the education sector. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the allocation and distribution of scholarships for students of AJK. Participants thoroughly reviewed matters relating to eligibility, distribution mechanisms, and priority academic disciplines. A comprehensive strategy and implementation plan were formulated to ensure that the scholarships are distributed in a transparent and merit-based manner while prioritizing fields of study that can contribute to the educational and socio-economic development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The stakeholders emphasized that the initiative reflects the federal government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for talented students of AJK and strengthening human capital in the region. The meeting concluded with a consensus on establishing a coordinated mechanism between PEEF and relevant educational authorities to ensure the effective and timely implementation of the scholarship program for deserving students of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
