Zakat Foundation of America Pakistan Launches Winter Relief Drive in Islamabad
Islamabad: Zakat Foundation of America (ZFA) Pakistan, conducted a late-night winter relief drive across key areas of Islamabad to provide quilts and basic bedding to homeless laborers and daily wage workers exposed to extreme cold.
The distribution took place in areas including Peshawar Morr, Murree Road and adjoining routes connecting Islamabad with Rawalpindi, where large numbers of workers are forced to sleep outdoors due to the lack of shelter. With temperatures dropping to nearly 4°C, volunteers worked through the night to ensure timely and dignified assistance.
The initiative was supported by student volunteers from various universities. Volunteers were assigned specific routes and briefed on ethical engagement, ensuring that aid was delivered respectfully without disturbing those resting.
A representative of Zakat Foundation of America Pakistan stated that the winter drive is part of the organisation’s broader seasonal relief programme aimed at protecting vulnerable communities from harsh weather conditions.
Pakistan faces recurring challenges during winter, particularly for homeless populations exposed to cold-related illnesses. While government-run shelters provide some relief, many laborers remain unable to access these facilities due to work schedules, mobility issues, or distance.
ZFA Pakistan continues to complement public efforts through community-based initiatives focused on emergency relief, education, orphan care and youth development. The winter relief drive will continue in other cities as part of the organisation’s nationwide outreach during the cold season.
