Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, congratulated the government on the successful and timely auction of the 5G spectrum, calling the transparent process a crucial step for advancing Pakistan’s digital economy. He said the 5G spectrum allocation will serve as a catalyst for innovation across the IT and telecom sectors.
According to Sheikh, the introduction of 5G spectrum will significantly raise internet speeds and enable new business models in e-commerce, freelancing and digital services. Faster and more reliable connectivity is expected to unlock opportunities for small and medium enterprises and support growth in online trade nationwide.
Sheikh stressed that effective rollout of 5G spectrum requires substantial investment in modern infrastructure, including a larger number of towers and upgraded networks to ensure coverage across the country. He urged the government to take measures that facilitate broad and equitable deployment so urban and rural areas can benefit alike.
Industry and commerce stand to gain from 5G spectrum through improved industrial productivity, smarter city solutions and expanded digital banking services. Sheikh noted that telecom companies will receive renewed confidence to invest, which could translate into higher IT exports and stronger economic output.
The FPCCI president highlighted the job-creating potential of 5G spectrum for Pakistan’s youth, saying the technology will open roles in tech development, operations and digital services while strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure. He called on the government and PTA to adopt business-friendly policy and regulatory frameworks to support seamless 5G implementation.
Sheikh concluded that embracing the 5G spectrum is an essential step for Pakistan to integrate more fully into the global digital economy and achieve long-term gains in education, health, industry and everyday life.
