Advancing Pakistan Cambodia Ties in Parliament

On March 5, 2026, the Pakistan–Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group held its inaugural briefing at Parliament House, Islamabad under the convenership of Ms. Shamaila Rana, MNA. The session brought together members of the Friendship Group alongside officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce, while Pakistan’s Ambassador to Cambodia participated virtually.

Members present included Mr. Daniyal Ahmed, Mr. Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, Ms. Samar Haroon Bilour, Ms. Tamkeen Akhtar Niazi, Ms. Mah Jabeen Khan Abbasi, Ms. Shazia Farid, Ms. Natasha Daultana, Ms. Neelam Kumari and Ms. Saeeda Jamshid. The convener welcomed participants and stressed the role of parliamentary platforms in boosting legislative dialogue and closer ties between the peoples of Pakistan and Cambodia.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a comprehensive briefing, noting that while high-level exchanges have been limited, Cambodia has shown increasing interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan. The briefing recorded Pakistan’s offer to facilitate the opening of a Cambodian diplomatic mission in Pakistan and underlined that enhanced institutional presence could deepen Pakistan Cambodia ties across multiple levels.

The delegation recalled that Pakistan was among the early countries to recognize Cambodia and that bilateral engagement has widened in recent years, particularly in trade, economic cooperation and parliamentary interaction. Participants highlighted the contributions of the Second Joint Trade Commission meeting and ministerial-level discussions in mapping new areas for collaboration.

Officials and members identified promising prospects in textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather goods and travel-related products as immediate areas for increased economic engagement. The briefing also emphasised ongoing institutional dialogue and trade-related engagement as practical channels to convert discussions into measurable outcomes for Pakistan Cambodia ties.

During the discussion, members called for stepped-up parliamentary diplomacy and stronger people-to-people contacts, urging practical initiatives in trade, tourism, education, information technology and cultural exchange. The first PFG briefing in Islamabad set a tone for sustained parliamentary interaction aimed at translating political goodwill into tangible cooperation between the two countries.
